Continuing Education Credits
The Indian Health Service Clinical Support Center is the accredited sponsor for the U.S. Public Health Service Scientific and Training Symposium. Below is an overview of the various types of credit that are typically offered for the Symposium. Details will be posted as they become available.
DENTISTS:
The Indian Health Service (IHS) Division of Oral Health is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. The maximum number of hours available for this activity is 22.75.
DIETITIANS:
The Symposium agenda will be submitted to the Indian Health Service, Nutrition and Dietetics Training Program (N&DTP) which is accredited by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) to sponsor continuing professional education for Registered Dietitians. A maximum of 18 CPEUs are available for Registered Dietitians for this activity
ENGINEERS/ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICERS:
The Indian Health Service is an authorized Continuing Education Unit (CEU) provider member of the International Association for Continuing Education and Training.
HEALTH SERVICES OFFICERS :

NURSES:
The Indian Health Service Clinical Support Center is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity is designated up to 19.00 contact hours for nurses.
PHARMACISTS:
The Indian Health Service Clinical Support Center is approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education
PHYSICIANS:
The Indian Health Service (IHS) Clinical Support Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. The IHS Clinical Support Center designates this educational activity for a maximum of 20 ½ AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Each physician should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. This Category 1 credit is accepted by the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American College of Nurse Midwives.
SCIENTISTS:

SOCIAL WORKERS:
The Symposium agenda has been submitted to the National Association of Social Workshop for approval.
THERAPISTS:
Therapists may apply for general credits (see below).
VETERINARIANS:
The American Association of Veterinary State Boards RACE has approved the 2009 USPHS Scientific and Training Symposium as meeting the Standards adopted by the AAVSB. This program will be included under the approved provider listing on AAVSB's Website (www.aavsb.org). This program was reviewed and approved by the AAVSB RACE program for 35.00 hours (maximum of 18.00 hours for one individual) of continuing education for veterinarians and 35.00 of continuing education for veterinary technicians (maximum of 18.00 hours for one individual).
GENERAL CEs:
In addition to the above-listed continuing education credits, which will be issued by the specified organizations, any conference attendee can apply for general education credits for sessions and hours attended, which can be submitted to the appropriate body (e.g. licensing or certification agency) for a discipline not covered by the above-listed organizations. This general education certificate will be issued by the Commissioned Officers Foundation .
